God Is Not Dead
What Quantum Physics Tells Us About
Our Origins and How We Should Live

By Amit Goswami, PhD

Dr. Amit Goswami is a scientist that you should go out of your way to meet in person.  His joyful countenance emanates a lifetime of delving into the meaning of life and beyond through a rich integration of science and metaphysics. He is a theoretical nuclear physicist and professor emeritus of the University of Oregon Institute for Theoretical Physics. His father was a Hindu guru in India.  Dr. Goswami brings his knowledge of mystical traditions together with his love for scientific exploration.

Goswami helps readers to break free of a Newtonian, materialistic view of reality to the fascinating quantum experience of the divine. He describes himself as a quantum activist, which includes living in balance with both the quantum and material worlds -- and an experience of consciousness.

What is most impressive is his ability to write and lecture on complex theories which are inclusive, rather than presenting only his carefully researched theories.  An example of this is in Chapter (7) "How God Created the Universe and Life in It."  He reviews theories from Quantum Cosmology, the Anthropic Principle, Delayed-Choice Experiment and others with the question, “Chance and Necessity? or Are We Here Because of the Universe?” (p. 97). He further explores the variances of theories in his next chapter, “The Design, the Designer, and the Blueprints for Design.” (p.107) Along with his evaluation of various theories he shares his own theory, "God is a creative designer who guides evolution through creative quantum leaps.  The fossil gaps are evidence of the discontinuity of these quantum leaps.” (p.115)

Further elaborating on this theme he writes:

“So here is what I intuit. Fossil data are some of the best proof of the existence of God and of God’s creativity.  Creativity occurs through quantum leaps, taking no time.  I submit that here is the new mechanism for the fast tempo of evolution! I will show below that this theory integrates the thinking of everyone: of the intelligent design theorists, because the design arrived via creativity is obviously intelligent and also because the designer is God; and of the developmental biologists, because indeed it takes creativity, one giant leap to “see” all the right possibilities for making a new organ and then making it.  This theory satisfies the catastrophe thinkers, because death is part of creativity, destruction before creation. The destruction is also needed to open ground for the play of the new creations. The appropriate metaphor for God in this aspect of creativity is what Hindus would call Siva’s dance. God in this special aspect of Shiva, the king of the dancers, is first a destroyer and then a creator ...” (p. 121).

As a reader you will find yourself challenged to rethink your own version of reality and find yourself reinterpreting some of the experiences and events of your life. Goswami includes his theories of the existence of souls, the power of dreams, the universality of love, and the very mind of God.
