Grandma's Valentine's Message

Many of us take much better care of others than we do ourselves.  We may shower compassion upon our families, loved ones and friends and yet find it difficult to offer the same compassion to the person we see in the mirror every day.  In fact, we may have been taught that caring for ourself is wrong or selfish!  Nothing could be further from the truth.

My spirit teacher, Grandma likes to say it this way: "Dear Ones, To practice the art of compassion fully and completely, you must include yourself in the equation. To offer compassion and loving to others without offering to yourself in equal measure is actually creating imbalance and disharmony. We are not talking about self indulgent actions that are harmful, such as eating or drinking too much or doing other things under the false guise of love.  Instead, we are talking about cherishing yourself as you cherish others!"

She continues, "Each of you is a child of the Divine. You are no more or less important than any other being in all of Creation. To give to others without caring with the same full heart to yourself is to deny a part of God. It creates an illusion of separation which is untrue."

"In seeking to practice the Fullness of Compassion you must include the self. Your glorious being is magnificent!  You are a unique and perfect expression of the Divine--just as you are. To be a fully rounded and complete spiritual person your magnificent self must receive the same sort of love and compassion that you would lavish upon another."

"The definition of compassion is the active desire to alleviate another's suffering.  It is embodied by the Golden Rule, 'Do unto others as you would have done unto you.' Would you want your loved ones to feel separate, giving more than they receive?  For instance, would you want them to give to others in hope that the giving will help them to feel more worthy themselves -- as some of you do?

"Valentine's Day is a perfect opportunity to evaluate how well you are giving loving compassion to yourself!  If you were encouraging a new love, you might make a lovely meal, send flowers, leave a sweet note, give them a back rub or offer other tender caring. You deserve the same kind of attention -- from you!  Actually, when you fail to do so it can produce disharmony in All That Is and create a build up of resentment inside of you."

"Here are some questions that you might want to ask yourself:

• When is the last time that you bought yourself a bouquet?
• How often do you take the time to fix yourself a nourishing, healthy meal -- and serve it on the 'good china?'
• When is the last time that you treated yourself to a massage?
• Have you ever sat and listened to your favorite music by candlelight even when there wasn't a power outage?"
• What are you doing to assure that your health is vibrant? You are diligent about taking your cat or dog to the veterinarian and your friends to their appointments -- when is the last time you had a medical check up?
• When have you taken time out of your schedule for a refreshing 'play date?'
• Have you ever said 'I love you!' as you looked deeply into your own eyes in the mirror?

You may think of these things as frivolous when considering them for yourself.  If that is the case, ask yourself 'Why?'  Why is it that you don't feel as though you deserve this kind of loving care?  It may be that you learned something that is untrue about yourself.  You may have developed a belief that you aren't worthy, or that you aren't good enough, or other negative perceptions.  These erroneous beliefs produce fears that interfere with you expressing the fullness of your Divinity!"

"It is time to root out these computer viruses in your mind!  There is in fact, no better use of your time.  When any of the Divine is not expressing its fullness, all of Creation suffers.  To 'work on the self' is to give a great gift to All That Is!  As you are able to see and feel the true nature of your magnificence, you will vibrate in such a manner as to create healing ripples all around you," Grandma continued.

"Begin by fulfilling the questions I have posed (above) and caring for yourself with tenderness.  If you cannot do this, begin working with professionals who can help you to unravel the erroneous beliefs that restrict you.  Get assistance in releasing the perceptual rubbish that you learned in your younger life that interferes with you believing that you are a child of the Divine."

She adds, "Dear Ones. You are needed at this time. To fulfill your mission of helping the New Earth to manifest, you must be in harmony. To be in harmony you must transform the incorrect thought patterns, fears and negative feelings about yourself that create disruption. Your beautiful planet can not afford the luxury of your outmoded behavior. It damages you which in turn damages the fabric of the Universe."

"Dear Ones, You are loved beyond your capacity to understand in this moment!  You are precious, remarkable and wondrous aspects of the Divine!  Cherish yourselves in the same fashion as you cherish others.  This fills you to overflowing and the brilliant energies that spill over are a balm to All That is and to all that you love! Be your magnificence! Those very beings that you seek to assist will be given an even greater blessing."

"As we leave you, we give you our blessing as you become the Love that you wish to see in the world!"

Thank you for your wisdom, Grandma.
