A PATH TO NATURE IN YOUR LIFE
Dave's column won't be back until next month. Right now, he and his son are quite far off the grid. They are staying in a remote Shuar* village in the wilds of Ecuador! After this, he'll be hiking and paddling into the Amazon. With that kind of an itinerary, he should have lots of wonderful stories and interesting information to share with us once he arrives back in the USA!
For now, we'll wish he and Kevin a "bon voyage" and "happy holidays" as we look forward to his sharing more about venturing outside! Until then, here are a few images to whet your appetite! - Editors.

Scarlet Macaw (Ara macao)

This is the kind of dwelling found in the Shuar territories.

This woman elder exhibits how native people across the Amazon basin use brightly colored feathers for personal decoration.

The nocturnal Red Eyed Tree Frog (Agalychnis callidryas)
* The Shuar are a group of people who live in the tropical rain forest that lies between the Andes and the Amazon lowlands. There are two general groups of of these tribal people, the muraiya (hill) Shuar live in the foothills of the Andes; the achu (swamp-palm) Shuar live in the wetter lowlands east of the Andes in Ecuador and Peru. In the past, these people were quite feared as they were fierce warriors who once practiced shrinking human heads!
