EDITOR'S NOTE

A Time to Remember Love

"In the depth of winter,
I finally learned that within me there lay an invincible summer."

- Albert Camus

December is such a strange month.  On one hand, Winter finally settles itself in, making the landscape cold and hard--unyielding to the breath of life.  On the other hand, it is a time that we gather together--friends and family-- to warm ourselves in each other's presence.

If there is a time of year when Love is more crucial to our survival and well being, it must be Winter.  It is during this season that we need to stoke the fire of our soul.  We fan the flames inside us to keep us from slipping beyond the reach of the living.

There is no better way to inspire others and inspirit ourselves as Loving. It doesn't matter whether Love is lavished upon another person or creature--loving is an act of defiance!  It is making a stand for Life against the chill of mortality.  It nurtures our hearts when they feel as feeble as the winter Sun.

"If you ask me to explain hope
In terms of solid sense, I can’t.
It’s easy enough to understand
The surface stream of ego wishes,
But beneath that lies an ebb
Of paradox upon a flow of mystery.
How is hope born of hopelessness?
Why does it thrive against, not with, all odds?
When logic locks the door of possibility,
How does hope pull the hinge pins?
Might I suggest, however strange,
That hope is not from here.
Its home is in the future,
A fabric still forming between
The heart of now and then.
Perhaps hope is simply love
That hasn’t happened yet,
Come back to see us through."
- Trudy Sloan, Beyond The Reach Of Reason

As we honor the Light in our diverse wintertime holidays, remember to honor the light of Love.  Make time to share a loving moment with those that you care about.  Better than any Santa's sack--it is Loving that brings us the greatest gifts.
