Victory to Thee!
"Put yourself in a state of mind where you say to yourself,
'Here is an opportunity for me to celebrate like never before,
my own power, my own ability to get myself to do whatever is necessary'."
-Martin Luther King
April this year seems full of contrasts. On one hand, Spring's breath is finally blowing over the land. The feeders are being visited by returning birds whose songs enliven the breezes. Every creature, tree and blade of grass is expressing the optimistic energy of continuance!
In stark contrast, our human world is going through a dire financial crisis that has many people worried about losing their job or their home. So much of life seem to be teetering on a brink that many are feeling helpless and afraid. How do we find a way through?

Nearly eighteen years ago, my teacher Grandma started talking about the "New Earth." She told us that a time was coming that would provide a glorious, meta paradigm shift for the planet. She told us that human beings would change as well, becoming what she called, "New Humans." This felt very exciting to us and so we asked her to teach us about it.
She told us, "Your current minds can't really fathom the change. We can only teach you how you can begin. As you proceed, you will change into the person who can understand." This was very puzzling and also enticing! We knew that we wanted to participate in the Earth's renewal and wanted to experience the next evolutionary step for humankind. We also had a deep trust in Grandma and our other spirit teachers. We decided to "go back to school" and learn how we could become one of these new-fangled humans!

It seemed that all of our early lessons were about fear. Our teachers told us we would have to learn how to not be afraid. Well that felt easier said than done! How were we to manage that? We had just began Spirit Passages, were living off our credit cards and regularly terrified that we would go under. She would assure us but also say, "It is necessary that you stay out of fear. This is is the most powerful action you can take to contribute to positive manifestations in your life. When you are fearful, you send out energies that disrupt the flow." Since we often connected with her on long drives, at this point, she used the metaphor of our early spring roads. "Notice how you are slowed down by the frost heaves. The buckling roadbed may be likened to your energy when you are afraid. It slows down progress. You also must remember that fear cannot be ignored. That would be like trying to drive fast on a very bumpy road. Just as your vehicle would sustain damage, so too your very being would be injured. Attempting to pretend your fear doesn't exist or stuffing it down can lead to disease."
"So what do we do?" we asked. "You must learn to smooth the road", she replied.

This meant looking at the reasons we were afraid. We learned that fear had many faces and could express itself as depression, anger, jealousy, judgement and anxiety to name a few. Furthermore, we learned that a current situation often triggered an older and sometimes unconscious fear. She taught us that human beings have profound, "universal fears" which underlie all others. These were the Fear of Not Being Good Enough (or of being unlovable), the Fear of Abandonment and the Fear of Surrender.
Using journeys, we saw that these universal fears were often interwoven with each other and originated with perceptions that were formed very early in our lives. We also learned that by utilizing shamanic methods which function outside of ordinary time/space, that it was possible to heal those pivotal times. This could help release the grip of fear. By working on the elemental fears in our psyche, we found it was easier to diminish a current worry to a manageable proportion! This became the foundation for our Shamanic Inner Body Work.
As we went forward with our "training" we also learned tools to change our moods and feelings while they were happening. We learned about the power of love and gratitude. We learned that we had the power to not only shift out of fear but we could simultaneously align ourselves with the vibrations of creation/manifestation. (The work which is found on our Becoming the New Human CD was the outcome.)

As we were learning, Grandma's teachings were indeed sometimes hard to understand. It is only now that many of the things that she told us finally start to make more sense. She once told us that for a time human beings would be living in both worlds. Some would not be able to perceive the shifts. In essence, they would remain in the old world for a time. "Others, she said, "will be able to experience the New Earth--even before it is fully present. It is them-- through their new way of being--that will make it possible for all people to experience the change."
Dear readers, keep doing the hard work of becoming. As so many are gripped by fear, practice being grateful. Keep trusting in your ability to persevere and grow in the face of adversity. Celebrate what and who you love. Keep your eyes on the prize of a new and glorious world. When you falter, remember your role in helping not only yourself but all beings.

For inspiration, I'll leave you this month with a translation of "Jai Ho," the Oscar winning song from Slumdog Millionaire. It is not only about the triumph of love but a song about the triumph of Life itself. Let us all dance together on this magnificent New Earth!
Jai Ho!
Original lyrics by Gulzar Sahib.
This translation is a compilation of several versions found on the internet.
Victory to thee, Victory to thee, Victory to thee, Victory to thee
Come, come my Life, under the canopy
Come under the blue sky brocaded with gold!
Victory to thee, Victory to thee, Victory to thee, Victory to thee
Victory to thee.., Victory to thee.., Victory to thee.., Victory to thee..
Little by little, I had lost my life, my faith
I’ve passed this night dancing on coals
I blew away the sleep that was in my eyes
I counted the stars till my finger burned
Come, come my Life, under the canopy
Come under the blue sky brocaded with gold!
Victory to thee, Victory to thee, Victory to thee, Victory to thee
Victory to thee.., Victory to thee.., Victory to thee.., Victory to thee..
Taste it, taste it, this night is honey
Taste it, and keep it,
The heart; the heart is the last limit
You kohl-lined eyes
are magical aren't they?
Come, come my Life, under the canopy
Come under the blue sky brocaded with gold!
Victory to thee.., Victory to thee.., Victory to thee.., Victory to thee..
For how long, how very long
It’s been on my lips
Say it! Yes, say it
Blushing are those eyes...
Such lit up eyes!
Are they two illuminated diamonds?
Come, come my Life, under the canopy
Come under the blue sky brocaded with gold!
Victory to thee, Victory to thee, Victory to thee, Victory to thee
Victory to thee, Victory to thee, Victory to thee, Victory to thee
Even though the original words are in Hindi and Spanish, I hardily recommend that you listen to this joyful song! Here is a link to purchase an mp3 download of the original version

This reminds us of this quote by Harriet Beecher Stowe,
"When you get into a tight place and everything goes against you, till it seems as though you could not hang on a minute longer, never give up then, for that is just the place and time that the tide will turn."
